We all like to think we know what is best for our dog because we think we know our dog the best. The great thing about life is there is always something new to learn. You just have to open to new information!
I became curious if there was anything interesting or new about dogs faces/heads that I didn't know. Along the way I found some other fun facts about dogs that I wasn't aware of. So for you dog buffs, that want to know any and all information about dogs, this is the post for you!
Here are some fun facts that pertain to dogs faces/heads :)
The shape of a dog’s face is supposed to suggest a dogs livelihood- the longer the head, the longer the lifespan
EYES
Due to something produced in their eyes, they can see in the dark. They are able to see a difference between light and shadows, allowing them to see in dimmed light. Cats do have better sight then dogs in the dark.
Dogs have a third eyelid called a haw to protect the eye and help it to remain moist.
Dogs aren't completely blind. Dogs do see blue’s and yellow’s
EARS
There hearing is great too! Dogs can locate a sound source in 6/100ths of a second.
Dogs have more than twelve separate muscles that control the movement of their ears.
30% of Dalmatian’s are deaf in one ear
NOSES
With their strong sense of smell they are able to smell week-old human fingerprints.
A dog’s whiskers can sense minute changes in airflow. Located above the eyes, on the muzzle and below the jaw. These are called vibrissae.

MOUTHS
Dogs try to have a unique howl/bark, they will adjust theirs to sound different than other dogs’ howls/barks

Yawns are contagious to dogs too, and dogs are 4x more likely to recipricate yawns when the dog is around someone that they know
· An average dog runs about 19 mph. The Greyhound is the fastest dog at 45 mph, can outrun a cheetah

· Dogs enjoy rolling around in dirt/rubbish because the odor masks their own smell. In the wild when being hunted by prey and when trying to avoid being hunted themselves

· For those who haven’t seen all of the Disney Dalmatian’s movies, dalmatian’s are born white and develop their spots as they get older
· While petting a dog, the human and dogs blood pressure goes down. Get to petting!
· Walking around in circles to make their sleeping area as comfortable as possible dates back thousands of years to when dogs would make nests in grass.

· A Great Dane Zeus holds the record for the tallest dog in the world, at 44 inches

· When dogs kick backward after they go to the bathroom it’s not to cover it up, but to mark their territory, using the scent glands in their feet.
· When you get a dog into a routine, they can develop a sense of time and predict when things like walks and feedings are going to happen
