Exercise and food consumption both factor into your dogs weight. Small and large dogs both have healthy weight ranges for their body types and sizes that you should be aware of and keep in mind. The heavier your dog is, thee higher chance of them having health issues.
If you don't have the easy convenience of weighing your dog, here is a chart to use as reference to how your dog should look. Looking at the picture, if your dogs ribs are too visible and protruding then they are probably on the smaller side, and you should adjust their food intake. Being obese, is a little more noticeable, and your dogs food intake and exercise should be adjusted accordingly.
Just like how we are suppose to get at least 30 minutes of physically activity, it's also important to remember that our pets need regular physical activity too. I know sometimes the weather isn't always applicable to take your dog for a 30 minute walk, but it's still good to show as much consistency as possible. Even if its a 10 minute walk every night after dinner, something is still better then nothing. Then as you and your pet get more use to your routine you can expand it or try something new.
It's all fun and games
If your schedule isn't easily applicablefor getting your dog past the parameters of your yard you could ask someone to help you out. I offer drop-ins and dog walking sessions. If your schedule is chaotic, we can set up a weekly session where I come over 1-2 days a week and take your dog on walks/play with them.
Tip:
Even sitting outside throwing a ball or stick with your dog, running laps in the yard, or playing tug-of-war are easy small activities you can do to get your furry friend off the couch
